This area of the charity originally started when the children, after benefiting from toilets at school, ask their parents if they could have toilets at home. The parents then asked if it would be possible for us to fund the provision of toilets at their homes. These were funded through individual sponsors and a music festival.
The journey to get water for our school was a forty minute round trip several times a day, after discussion with the local water authority and parents we arranged to have clean water piped to the school. Our parents undertook the digging of gullies for the pipe work and soon our children were able to have clean water on a daily basis.
After coming across one of our children with severe conjunctivitis and finding out the family could not provide medicine we started to fund a monthly preventative clinic providing health checks for children. During these monthly checks children were monitored for weight and growth and medicines would be administered to treat a variety of common childhood ailments including conjunctivitis and gastroenteritis.
One of our volunteers, a nurse, supplied a first aid kit for each class and basic first aid training for all staff at Shree Krishna Primary School followed by a short written and practical exam.
Our latest project is to provide all children at school in Gorkha with clean water to drink by funding water filters. This has already shown a marked increase in attendance for both children and staff.
